I have been looking for a video project about metal working and decided to call Ethan Turner and Josh Taylor to see if they had any interest in allowing us to shoot in their facility. Turner & Taylor Metal Works creates custom fencing, balustrades, gates, doors, stair rails and many other artisan crafted metal structures for high end homes and businesses. Their business plan has also focused on the creation of a line of solid, welded metal mounts, escutcheons, hangers, rods and other units for drapery and interior applications.
Bill Zemanek and I went to Turner & Taylor last Thursday to get some “B” roll and to establish a feel for the business, their process and the tools they use. This first short piece is a video sketch of just part of their company. We will be shooting at their facility and on location several times over the next month to accumulate enough footage to give the complete narrative of who they are and what they do.
I have long been interested in metalworking and metalworkers so this is a project that has become very exciting to me. I am acquainted with other metal work specialists in the Bay Area and hope to create a longer film about the various aspects of metal work and contemporary metal artisans and artists.
Here is the first installment:
Beautifully shot tribute to this old craft that still has a real place in our contemporary life. Can’t wait to see what comes next.
Susan, Thanks for the positive comment. This is just a teaser of what will be three films with 3 very different goals. Stay in touch. Ken.
I might suggest a metal working business called Boot2Bonnet in Woodland Ken. It is owned by a young guy who is a trained metal coach work builder with quite a reputation for quality. His name is Nick Upton
Pat, Thanks for the comments. Looking forward to seeing you and your new Mini!
